ABOUT
Anabel Poh (1998, Singapore) is a CMF designer, material strategist, visual storyteller and innovator specialised in textiles based in the Netherlands.
She works within the field of sustainable material innovation for the fashion, interior & automotive industries. She is an empath; designing for strong emotional resonance with people, objects and the world around them. Her Southeast Asian heritage and innate sensitivity to materials have drawn her to explore many forms of crafts, specifically within textiles. She was the luxury and material innovations team lead at KHALIL Design. She graduated from the Department of Wellbeing, Design Academy Eindhoven, with her project “Meaningful Deconstruction” which won the Jury Award from petit h, Hermès. Her social design project, The Old School Club, was also nominated for the Planetree Design Award for its impact on lasting knowledge within communities. In 2022, Anabel co-founded UNCOLOUR Studios, a textile start-up that focuses on sustainable printing within the textile industry and is currently supported by the COSME Programme of the European Union. Within UNCOLOUR Studios, she is currently developing the first 100% bio-based and biodegradable silkscreen ink.
Besides this, she has been actively working with organisations such as State of Fashion in the Netherlands and the Or Foundation in Ghana to critically and strategically redesign existing wasteful and extractive systems within the textile and fashion industry. She is also a committee member of the emotional durability research at Wageningen University. It is a project with companies, policymakers, institutes and designers to analyse and propose ways to motivate consumers to maintain and repair products that are also beneficial for companies.
Her works have been shown largely during the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven (NL), Palais De Tokyo in Paris (FR), Ways of Caring Biennale in Arnhem (NL), Nationaal Glasmuseum Leerdam (NL), 38CC Gallery (NL) and Ghent Design Fest (BE).
